Description:

Island peak climbing is in the Everest region that offers a dramatic and highly glaciated West Face, which rises from the Lhotse Glacier. It is 8 km away from Mount Everest. Therefore, Island Peak Climbing with Everest Base Camp trek guarantees the majestic views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam (6,856 m) and Makalu (8, 481 m) throughout the journey.

Island Peak Climbing With Everest Base Camp Trek begins with a scenic flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. From where, the adventure to Everest Base Camp and Island Peak officially starts. For the next eight days, you will follow a classical route to Everest Base Camp. Similarly, the trail passes to the legendary Sherpa villages–Namche, Tengboche, Dingboche. Island peak climbing itinerary is carefully crafted to acclimatize better in the high altitude. The steady ascend is recommended thus you have two days’ reserve at Namche and Dingboche. On those days, instead of being idle, you can go for short hikes to keep better with cold weather and thin air.

After the close view of mighty Everest with panoramic mountain vistas, you will head down towards Ima Valley, crossing Kongma La pass for our goal to ascend Island Peak climbing. At Island Peak Base camp, you have basic prior- climb training, which will give you an idea of how to use your equipment. You can ascend Island Peak climbing in Nepal in a single day (8 hours) starting very early in the morning. You will cross crevasses and walk along a rock ridge to a glacier in some sections. In addition, there is a steep snow head wall above the rock ridge which finally leads to the summit. Therefore, the peak is physically challenging, however not too technical. The hard work pays off once we reach the top. With experience or no experience, this peak is doable for energetic people who want to enter the incredible world of mountaineering.

You will need Island peak climbing permits to climb the peak. Never bother, we will arrange for you. Your arrival in Kathmandu to until your departure from the city, we will take good care of you. You need not worry; You just need to enjoy the trip fullest and create memories.

With our knowledgeable Sherpa guide, your journey will be smooth and achievable. We fix our own ropes and give prior-basic training at Island Peak base camp. Instead, you can also do the next climbing, Mera Peak Climbing too.

Shenature family welcomes you to Nepal for your wonderful adventure. We will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel. We will let you know about the culture and environment for Kathmandu in brief along the way to the hotel. Upon reaching the hotel, you can relax at your hotel. 

Overnight at Kathmandu

Today is the leisure day at Kathmandu. The morning you can spend it on your own—roam the city or buy the required things for the trek. In the afternoon, we will meet you and introduce you to your guide for this adventure. We will have a briefing regarding the trip. If you have questions, you can ask us. In the evening we have a welcome dinner arranged for you, which will help you know more about your guide and the team.

You have a dramatic flight to Lukla; the official trekking starting point. Upon arrival at the Lukla Airport, you will have a brief introduction with the rest of the crew members. Afterward, start heading up the Dudh Koshi Valley on the classical route. To help you with the acclimatization, we will stay overnight at one of the Sherpa settlements of the Khumbu region ‘Phakding’. It is a 4 hours walk to Phakding from Lukla.

After a delicious breakfast, we resumed our trek towards the mountain trade hub, Namche Bazaar. Along the way you will walk through a stunning forest of pine, fir, rhododendron, and juniper, eventually ending the nature-filled journey at Namche. If the weather is clear, then you will get the first glimpse of the world’s top mountain and others. Namche is a busy settlement in the Khumbu region and is the gateway to the Khumbu. Its Saturday market will be very busy—the junction for the Sherpa traders and the Tibetan Yak caravans.

Namche is the ideal place for acclimatization. Instead of being idle, it is better to do some short activities. For instance, wake up early and head to Sagarmatha National Park for a beautiful sunrise view on snow-capped mountains. After that, come down and have a nutritious breakfast. Following you can visit Kunde Hospital set-up by Sir Edmund Hillary or take an hour walk to Everest view hotel for a stunning view of sunset over Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Lhotse and Everest. If time is adequate, then you can also visit a school established by Hillary.

Resume your trek after a day of acclimatization day at Namche Bazaar. The easy descent trail leads us to a small village in Phungki Thanka. From here you ascend the right side of the Dudh Koshi Valley to the Tengboche at the altitude of 3,860 m. Along the way, you will be blessed with amazing views of Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, Nuptse and the up-close view of Thamserku. Tengboche is famous for the region’s largest monastery. The monastery attracts many Buddhists travelers from around the world. Mostly people visit during Mani Rimdu festival that falls during autumn (fall) season. You stay at Tengboche, viewing the world’s famous mountains in the background.

You say goodbye to the historic Sherpa village Tengboche and descend via beautiful forest. Further, crossing the Imja Khola (river) you arrive at another beautiful Sherpa settlement Pangboche, which is home to the oldest monastery of the Khumbu region. From here the trail continues via meadow, where during summer Yaks graze. You finally reach Dingboche crossing Mani stone on the way. Enjoy a cozy night at Dingboche teahouse with the views of Mount Ama Dablam, Mount Lhotse and many other peaks in the background.

Today’s day is set aside for acclimatization at Dingboche. The aim is to climb up to 51000 m and sleep at 4410 m. Dingboche is a small Sherpa settlement and is a famous trail junction point for trekkers and climbers heading to Everest Base Camp and Island Peak. After breakfast, start your acclimatization hike to Nagarjun Hill that lies above Dingboche. This is not a technical climb, just a straight walk to the hill, which will help to face the tough altitude of the summit day. You get to see 360-degree views of Khumbu Himalaya, including Ama Dablam peak, Lhotse, Makalu, Island peak. Culminating the height and enjoying the views, you head down to Dingboche for an overnight stay.

After gaining the high altitude, you resume your trek. The trail traverses via meadows, farmlands along with lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. From Dzungla your trail ascends to a viewpoint with stone memorials for climbers who lost their lives on nearby summits. You continue the trail that lands you at Lobuche.

Today is one highlight of the trip as you will visit Everest Base Camp. Wake up early for a challenging walk to Everest Base Camp and catch the sun’s first rays on snow-capped mountains. It is a rare site for travelers. The more you walk, the landscape changes and so does the weather. Thus, you need to walk slowly and calmly to reach Everest Base Camps. Reaching the base camp, you can save the up close view of the mighty Everest in your camera. The memory will surely treasure lifelong. Creating the memory, you head down to Gorak Shep.

You set up an early morning walk to Kala Patthar, the most famous vantage point in the Khumbu region. Kala Patthar is popular for the panoramic views of Pumori, Nuptse, and Lhotse, etc. You can see a clear view of Mount Everest only from Kala Patthar. Achieving sublime, we descend to Lobuche for our goal of Island Peak climbing.

Today you will traverse the Khumbu Glacier before reaching Kongma La Base Camp, that is at 5,000 m. The ascent of the Kongma La pass is challenging as the trail is filled with moraine debris. Stone cairns wrapped with colorful prayer flags mark the pass. From the pass top, you can see amazing views of Nuptse and Lhotse. You descend to the Imja Khola Valley and further final descent leads to Chukkung. The place is popular for climbers heading for Island Peak. There are good quality equipment rental markets, where you can hire essential gears. Kindly let us know we will coordinate it for you. Reaching Chukkung having ample rest, we will checklist our gears required for the climb.

Today’s trail is a steep climb that winds below the southern flank of the moraine from the Lhotse Glacier. The path moves along a stream side. Continue walking across the magnificent Lhotse and Imja glacier moraines before reaching Island Peak Base Camp. Base camp is on the grassy slope. The crew members will already set the camps before your arrival. Thus, you can go inside the camp and rest for some time. After Lunch, pre-climb training will start. The training will be basic. Our world class climbing guides will instruct you mainly on how to use climbing boots, harness, ascender, carabineer, ice axe etc, along with rope using to ascend and descend.

Wake up at mid-night around 12 pm—1 am. It is always starting early in mountains as the day passes wind blows strongly and will interrupt. Start descending with the help of flash light. The trail goes northeast from base camp and continues a few hundred meters rugged path before a steep climb of hillside. From here the trail follows the ridgeline that lands into the exposed area before the summit glacier. Here, the guide will rope up as you have to pass an icy glacier. Depending on the season, we may have to or not cross crevasses. Finally, you land at the base of the south summit ridge, use fixed rope and jumar for 45 degree ice slope and snowy ridge to the top. 

This is the moment of sublime as mountains and glaciers surround the peak. The view from the top is surreal, you cannot compare with it. It’s unique and you will feel proud of achieving it. Capturing the magnificent nature, you head down to Chukkung. Along the way, you will have picturesque memories of mountains.

The day is set aside for any problem for the summit on an earlier day or, if successful, than it might be used for Lukla flight delay or cancellations. If everything goes well, then the day can discover the village along the route in more detail or walk on your own, enjoying the charisma of nature. Or you can explore Kathmandu valley. If submission is successful in the first attempt, then you can use the day as per your wishes.

You have a long walk to Namche. As descending is easier than ascending, we have kept you overnight at Namche. However, you will need to be careful while coming down. Thus, a slow and steady walk is recommended. The downhill walk along the river is blessed with the magnificent view of mountains like Ama Dablam. Continue to descend to Namche. Namche Bazaar is a trading hub, where low land traders meet highland peoples.

Our last day trekking trail ends at Lukla. After breakfast, you begin the trek from Namche crossing several suspension bridges, farmlands of the lower Dudh Koshi. Reaching Lukla gives rest to your aching knees as the walk was a steep descent. After refreshment, you will celebrate your successful trek and last day in the mountains with your crew members. Local beverages and music help us get in the celebrating mood.

You catch an early morning flight to Kathmandu. After landing in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to the hotel. Take some rest. Following you can visit the local shops around Thamel for souvenir shopping. Your guide will help you with this. Or you can go on a sightseeing tour of the city. You can spend the rest of the day on your own interest.

Today is the last day in Nepal. You can spend how much time you have in the city on your own. For instance, you can have a nutritious breakfast at your choice place, do last-minute souvenirs shopping or roam around the city. We will transfer you to the airport approximately 3 hours ahead of your departure time.

Along the route of Island Peak Climbing, there are many times you can see Mt. Everest. However, from the Island Peak summit, Everest is not visible, as the giant peak is covered just behind Mt. Lhotse.

The Island Peak scales at the altitude of 6, 183 m/20,305 ft. The top is blessed with spectacular views of mountains.

From the past couple of year’s experience, the Island Peak is doable in December. Though the temperature gets warm with proper warm clothes, you can attempt it this month. The weather will be clear with deep blue skies. The days will be warmer with the bright sun out. However, evening and morning will be chilly. Thus, you need to take care accordingly.

Island peak is a physically demanding peak. Though it is listed in the trekking peak category by the Nepal Mountain Association (NMA), you need to come with basic mountaineering skills to do this climb. Similarly, possess’ excellent physical condition to excel the climb. With our expert team, the climb will surely be a comfortable one.

It would be good if you have prior experience. However, novice walkers can also attempt this peak and enter the incredible world of Nepal mountaineering. However, you should be physically fit and in excellent health. Have the stamina to walk uphill downhill in harsh weather for 7-8 hours a day.

The climbing day is the tough part of this journey. Wake up around 12 pm – 1 am in the mid- night for the tough day of the journey.

Until Chukkung, you can charge your devices, and for hot showers it is available till Namche Bazaar. Above you have to pay and in the climbing section, it is not possible. Also, teahouses will take money for device charge.

For Island Peak climbing, you will need a trekking permit, TIMS and climbing permit. We will arrange them all for you.

Insurance is a sensitive case. For any of our trips, Travel insurance is mandatory. You can check insurance details here.

For peak climbing in Nepal, spring season (mid-March to May) and autumn season (mid-September to May) are the best times for adventure in Nepal.

Yes, we will provide a certificate after your successful summit of the trip.

 

If you are sick and have to cancel the trip and inform us written 3 months before the departure then cut the flight cost and other expenses from the advance payment, we will refund the rest amount or you save with us for your next trip. For peak climbing, if it is within 3 months, then there won’t be any refund.
