Your Everest Base Camp Trek via Gokyo Lakes & Cho La Pass trek starts with arrival in Kathmandu. You have a guided city tour of the city, giving you the opportunity to discover the bustling city. The actual adventure starts with the scenic flight to Lukla, one of the starting points for many experienced journeys in the Khumbu region. Till Namche, the Sherpa capital, you follow the classic trail and then the trek goes on a quieter route to Gokyo lakes. Now the trek takes the eastern route with a cross of glaciated Chola pass. Finally, you are where you have dreamed of the Everest Base Camp. It is a circular trail when you are back at the Namche Bazaar. Thus, Everest Base Camp & Gokyo Lakes Trek is also popularly known as Everest Circuit.

Welcome to SheNature! When your plane comes closer to Nepal, you will get to see the beautiful mountains. Upon arrival at the airport, once your clear luggage comes outside, we will be there to receive you and transfer to the hotel. Reaching the hotel, you can refresh and then you can take adequate rest for jet lag. If you are fine, then you can roam around the city on your own or your guide can help you with your wish. 

Overnight at Kathmandu!

 

Today you have a guided sightseeing of Kathmandu UNESCO world heritage sites. The highlighted places to visit are Kathmandu Durbar Square,Swayambhu, Boudhanath, & Pashupatinath. In Durbar square, you can see monuments, the palace (Durbar) of an ancient king and Kumari Ghar- the home of a living goddess. Next to visit is Swayambhunath, best known as monkey temple. Here you will see monkeys, the Buddhist shrine, will feel a kind of peace. Third to go is Boudhanath, where there will be about 100 different Tibetan monasteries. And final in the list is Hindus biggest temple, Pashupatinath. The shiva linga symbolized itself as the energy and life dwelling in the earth. In the evening, you have a welcome dinner with us at a Nepalese restaurant.

Wake up early to catch an early morning flight to Lukla (2,800 m/ 9383 ft) and this is not a regular flight as you are flying parallel to the Himalayas. If the weather is pleasant, then you get to view beautiful snow-capped mountains from the left side of the seat. At Lukla, you will meet a porter, who will assist you in carrying luggage on your adventurous journey to EBC. First day of the trek begins with ascending northwards of the valley toward Dudh Koshi River. From here, you will walk on a trail that takes you to Namche. The walk is easier and you will cross many tributary streams along the route.

Cross the river via bridge and head up the valley through the magnificent forest of blue pine & rhododendron. The forest brightens in spring time because of rhododendron flower blossom. As you pass via the villages of Benkar, Monjo (2835 m) & Jorsale (2805 m), you will cross the river several times. A final stunning suspension bridge brings you to the foot of the steep climb to Namche. Get ready with your camera in this section, as you will see the first glimpse of Mt. Everest if possible. Final steep walk brings us to Namche Bazaar, Sherpa headquarters. Namche is a famous Sherpa village, where you can find equipment, coffee shops, bakeries, etc.

You have another day in Namche Bazaar, which will use the adaptability of altitude you have gained. The best you can do is walk strenuous hike to high altitude and come back to sleep at Namche Bazaar. This will let you know whether your body is acclimatizing to the altitude. There are options—whether you can walk toward Thame valley over Dudh Koshi River or hike up to National Park headquarters for a beautiful sunrise and sunset view. You can experience Sherpa culture, local flora & fauna. You get back to Namche for lunch and use the evening discovering Namche Bazaar.

Climb an easy steep trail to the airstrip at Syangboche, (3720m/12,200 ft) and then continue walking to Khumjung, the largest village of the region. The surrounding views are amazing and breathtaking. Further ascend until you reach Mongla. The views are beautiful from Mongla too. If you are lucky, you will see wild animal musk deer in this section. Now the route descends 300 m to the Dudh Koshi River at Phorstse Bridge. From Phortse Thanga, the trail climbs steeply to Dole. You need to be cautious to walk slowly and steadily. That will help you acclimatize with the altitude. The trail passes through bush and birch forest. Throughout the route, you have many opportunities to enjoy magnificent views of Himalayan tops, monasteries, rhododendron flowers, etc.

Take the gradual ascent above the Dudh Koshi River valley. You have a short walk today. You will like it, however you need to be cautious of the altitude gain. Walking on barren alpine landscape with little juniper trees, you reach Machhermo crossing through Lhabarma and Luza valley. In the afternoon, you have enough time to acclimatize and walk to a higher altitude. Enjoy the breathtaking views of mountains.

Walk on a steep trail from Machherma to the steep grassy tail above the Dudh Khosi River. Walking in alpine valleys is not easier. The valley widens once the trail passes via Pangga. Here, you will get to see the splendid views of Cholatse (6335 m). Descend to the riverbank before beginning the steep climb on a limited trail onto the terminal moraine of the Ngozumpa glacier. The view of the Cho Oyu in the north is breathtaking. The first lake you enter today is Longpongo, which are the highlights of today’s trail, including Gokyo Lakes. Gokyo is as blue as the sky and holds serenity & calmness in it. Feel the heaven in the world itself with the view of the Gokyo Lake and clear blue sky above.

Hike to Gokyo Ri viewpoint for eventual views on mountains. The 180 degree views of the mountains are amazing. You will see four eight thousand meter peaks; Cho Oyu, Everest, Lhotse and Makalu. After you enjoy the scenic mountains, return to Gokyo for lunch. It is a total 4 hours walk. In the afternoon, you can ascend back to Gokyo for the breathtaking views down the Ngozumpa Glacier. Get back to the teahouse for a good rest. Enjoy the evening with a beautiful, mesmerizing surrounding view.

After a good spend at Gokyo, you will head toward Thagnak. The path is rocky and will pass through many difficulties, however the path is well marked, only you have to be careful of narrow trails. Along the way, you will pass through Ngozumpa Glacier and several yak pastures. Walking up and down, you will eventually reach the eastern side of Gokyo.

Start early for the long day walk through Cho La. Climb up towards Col, that will take around 90 minutes. From the Col, you will see Cho La Pass in the distance. Then descend a larger boulder field and eventually climb very steep and rocky to the top of the pass. The top might have some ice just after the seasons; after November and May.  From the top is amazing, including the Ama Dablam. Take care while descending the steep descends and small glaciers. The route becomes more defined once you come closer to Dzongla.

Today also continues descending along with Chola La Lake through the grassy landscape to Lobuche. The route turns via the wide river bed before reaching Lobuche. Here, we are on the classic Everest Base Camp trail. You had a short pleasurable trek today. You can enjoy taking a rest or prepare for the next day’s adventure.

Today, it is a long and hard day as we visit Everest Base Camp trek. You start steep trials and walk on a trail to the base of the tallest mountains in the world. You reach Gorak Shep (5,180m). You take a short break and set off for Base camp. The climb becomes strenuous because of thin air in high altitude. You cross through moraine and streams before arriving at the Everest Base Camp. You can see colorful tents of mountaineers of Mount Everest and in the surrounding we can see beautiful glimpses of mountains like Nuptse, Pumori.  Enjoying the views you ascend down to Gorakshep overnight.

NOTE: You can witness a more rewarding sunset view from Kalapatthar.  Sunset views are more beautiful than the sunrise from Kalapatthar. If you wish, kindly inform your guide to act accordingly.

Another long day as we climb Kala Patthar. The Kala Patthar view point is most popular in the Everest region. You can see the most significant view of the Khumbu glacier and on top of that you will get to witness 360 degree up-close views of some of the world’s highest mountains in the world. The sights are incomparable to anything that you have seen till now on this trek. 

You will descend to Gorak Shep for breakfast and rest for some time. Then we ascend down to Pheriche. Till Lobuche you retraces the same trail and then after it will be new places for you.

Trek down via the hillside forest of rhododendron and juniper trees.  Cross the prayer-flag bridge over the Dudh Koshi River and then follow Dudh Koshi gorge descending via pine forest. Here, we night spot colorful pheasants, musk deer, mountain goats, etc. You reach back to Namche Bazaar enjoying mountains like Mt Everest, Amadlam for the last time.

Walk on the steep trail so be careful while moving your legs on rocky terrain. Cross the suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River and from here the trek becomes natural as you will pass through many local villages. Reaching Lukla, give rest to tired legs. Today is your last day in the mountains. So, enjoy the moment and you will have a trek celebration with your team. Thanks to those helping you reach Gokyo Lakes and Everest Base Camp.

You have an early morning flight to Kathmandu. Arriving at Kathmandu, take some rest and then you can go for souvenir shopping. In the evening we will host a farewell dinner on the occasion of trip completion.

Today is the eventual departure of the trip. If you have extra days in Kathmandu, then we will transfer you to the airport on that day itself. If you have time, then you can roam around the city otherwise we will transfer you to the airport 3 hours before your departure time.

Everest Base Camp with Gokyo Lakes & Cho La Pass is moderate to strenuous trek. In most parts, it is moderate and in some portions of the trek; it is strenuous. For example, while crossing the Cho La pass, climbing EBC and Kalapattar from Gorak Shep, it is challenging because of thin air and rocky trails. However, you are physically and mentally fit, and then you can accomplish the trek successfully.

The highest point of the EBC Gokyo trek itinerary is Kala Patthar (5545 m). In this trek, you will reach above 5000 m high altitude many times. For example, (5,483 m), Cho La Pass, Kala Patthar & EBC. From all the points, the Himalayas beauty will blow you away.

It is difficult to trek on your own on this trek as you will have to reach above 5000 m often. It is better to walk on a guided tour on this type of trek to enjoy the mountains fully.
